Families Instructing Students at Home (FISH) is one of the oldest homeschool ministries in the area; we have been serving the Brandon, FL area for 25+ years. The purpose of FISH is to provide support, encouragement, resources, and information to homeschool families. We are Christian families educating our children in our homes. We place strong emphasis on spiritual maturity and development of Christian character. We purpose that all of our activities and approved materials will be consistent with the Holy Bible in order to honor and glorify the LORD Jesus Christ.

Jeremy and Karen have been serving on the board since 2023 as both FISH Chairs and Membership Coordinators. Married since 1999, they are the proud parents of four children. With a heart for Christian homeschooling, they are passionate about coming alongside fellow parents to encourage, equip, and support them in providing a Christ-centered education at home.

Josue and Trista Calzada

Spirtual Life Director

Josue and Trista have been part of FISH for 6 years. FISH has been a big blessing for our 4 children. Josue Jr, Abbie, Makayla, & Analiyah. We have enjoyed the many families we get to interact with in this community. We are passionate about seeing students grow in their faith, rooted in truth and love for others.

Jason and Tera joined the board in 2023 and serve as the athletic directors.

Terry and Lisa Golden

Treasurer

Terry and Lisa Golden began their homeschooling journey with Fish in 2012. Married in 1997, they have 4 children. Having a desire to follow where the Lord calls, they joined the board as the Fish Treasurer in 2022.

Joe and Kelli Walker

Education Director

Joe and Kelli have been members of the FISH board since 2025. Together they lead all aspects of FISH education to include PATH, Field Trips, Yearbook and Graduation/Promotion. They have been married since 2007 and have 2 amazing children whom they have always homeschooled. Joe and Kelli are excited to see the continued growth in our FISH community

Joe and Danielle Wheeler

Community Life Director

Joe and Danielle have served on the board since 2024 as the Community Life Director. Since their marriage in 2005, God has blessed them with four wonderful children. Prior to moving to the Tampa Bay area, Joe served in the Army for over 20 years, causing the family to move every 2 to 3 years. Each time they moved, they made finding a Christ-centered community a priority. They continue to prioritize this as they build community with the FISH family.

Kevin and Markie Whitt

Creative Arts Director

IT Coordinator

Kevin and Markie have been board members since 2023. Together they oversee the FISH Creative arts programs, as well as maintain the website and social media pages. They’ve been married since 2003 and are blessed with three children. With a shared passion for creativity and service, they are dedicated to equipping students and families to grow and thrive through the arts.
